Why We Do It

Our board of directors involvement ranges from original members to those of us who have come on to help a very worthwhile cause.  We do not wish to be noticed as individuals but rather by the inspiration of the entire group with all of our strengths.

With that in mind, we thought we would tell you why we became involved with TKEN:

What made you become involved with TKEN?

I.  I have worked at Shriners Hospital for more than 10 years and was directly involved with requests from patients and families who did not have any resources to purchase needed durable equipment.  I also received many calls each week from individuals wanting to donate equipment but who were unable to find any organization to take it.

II. My wife did some printing for my friend’s charity.  We saw a need for help and a passion to help kids. It truly inspired us to see what was happening at TKEN.  We immediately wanted to be a part of helping Kids.

III. I wanted to try and help the many children who need medical equipment, but cannot obtain it. My experience working with other child and youth serving programs instilled in me a drive to help children and families in need. I had an opportunity to help a committed group of people, who are passionate about giving the same opportunities to children with disabilities that all children deserve. I could not pass it up. It is especially important in difficult times to extend support to people that fall through service cracks and can’t get what they need due to the harsh realities of large systems trying to fairly manage limited resources.

What is your goal for TKEN?

I. To be able to provide appropriate equipment to every family requesting assistance.

II. To help kids with special needs really embrace life with the use of the proper adaptive equipment.  Seeing the smiles on their faces when they get their equipment is contagious.  It would be nice if the contagious smile could spread across the country.

III. It would be great to have the financial resources to provide equipment to every child requiring assistance.

IV. I want to be a part of a wonderful group of people who truly care about helping kids. I see myself supporting and encouraging the growth of the organization. I want to see TKEN reach more children, improve its long term prospects to help others, and become what it is envisioned to be.

If you know of a child who would benefit from our services or would like to be part of an organization that truly changes lives,  please give us a call.
